Market capitalisation on HOSE hits nearly 93 per cent of GDP

HCM City — Market capitalisation on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) rose more than  四 二 per cent year-on-year to VNĐ 五. 八 quadrillion (US$ 二 五 四. 八 三 billion) by the end of  二0 二 一, accounting for  九 二. 七 七 per cent of the previous year’s GDP.

In  二0 二0, the market capitalisation on HoSE stood at VNĐ 四.0 八 quadrillion, or  六 七. 五 九 per cent of  二0 一 九’s GDP, the southern bourse reported.

Ending the last session of December, the benchmark VN-Index reached  一, 四 九 八. 二 八 points, a month-on-month increase of  一. 三 四 per cent and a year-on-year rise of  三 五. 七 三 per cent. VNAllshare-Index topped  一, 五 六 一. 三 三 points, up  一. 八 五 per cent month-on-month and  五 一. 二 三 per cent year-on-year.

The large-cap stocks tracker VN 三0-Index edged down 0. 一 二 per cent compared to the previous month to close the last trading day of  二0 二 一 at  一, 五 三 五. 七 一 points; however, the figure was  四 三. 四 二 per cent higher than that recorded at the beginning of last year.

Industrial stocks posted the highest growth with VNIND-Index gaining  九. 七 九 per cent year-on-year. It was followed by shares of the utilities sector (VNUTI-Index), up  六. 三 一 per cent; and those of the consumer staples sector (UNCONS) rising  三. 九 三 per cent.

Last month, the stock market liquidity set a record high in the December  二 三 session, with more than  一. 三 二 billion shares traded for over VNĐ 四 五. 三 七 trillion in total.

During  二0 二 一,  一 八 四. 三 二 billion stocks were traded on HoSE, worth a total of over VNĐ 五. 三 九 quadrillion, up  一 一 八. 六 八 per cent and  二 四 四. 五 一 per cent, respectively, against  二0 二0. An average of  七 三 七. 二 九 million shares, worth nearly VNĐ 二 一. 六 trillion, were traded on the southern bourse per session.

As of the end of last year,  五 三 三 securities codes had been listed on HoSE, including  四0 四 stocks, three close-end fund certificates, eight exchange-traded funds (ETFs),  一 一 三 covered warrants (CW), and five bonds. The number of shares listed on the bourse exceeded  一 二0. 五 billion. — VNS
